What should I do if my laptop or smartphone is lost or stolen?

Modified on Mon, 23 Jun at 11:17 AM

In the event of loss or theft, it is important to block all connections to the device concerned.

Actions I can take myself

If your computer is lost or stolen, you can block access to it from your smartphone.

  • Go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list
  • Then identify the device concerned and, depending on the configuration, you will have the option of "Deactivating the lost device" or "Disable lost device".

If disk encryption via BitLocker has been activated, the ‘View Bitlocker keys’ button may be visible. This means that the data has been encrypted.

If the button is not visible, Bitlocker may still be activated but the Bitlocker keys are not synchronized with your 365 account.

Other actions

  • Contact the police to report the theft or loss.
  • Contact our Service Desk by email, telephone or via the form in order to take the necessary and available actions according to your configurations to protect your data.
